When the summer is over, it is time for our student-athletes to apply the lessons that they have learned.

To be leaders, our student-athletes must continue to separate themselves from their peers by bringing the Empower ME Academy culture to their communities.

CHANGE THE CULTURE

Students, you must remember some of our basic expectations that we have for you when you come to an Empower ME Academy experience to improve your game. Below are some things you can do to help you bring the same culture to your schools and to be your best self.

CHECK-IN

First, never forget to check in. There is nothing worse than a student who walks into class or past an adult (or a peer) without saying a word. It could be as simple as a handshake (don’t forget the eye contact!), a high five, or even a “good morning/afternoon!” Adopt an enthusiasm for building relationships with others and watch how your happiness will increase. Your teachers dedicate countless hours – both in the classroom and out of it – to help you be the best possible version of yourself. A check-in requires little effort and could go a long way in showing respect!

LISTEN

Remember that listening and paying attention are two skills that are instrumental to your success. Whether it is reading all the directions on a test before starting or it is listening to a classmates’ presentation, there is so much information that can be learned by simply following instructions. You should always want to be the student that teachers can rely on. The best leaders are proficient at communicating effectively and actively listening.

STAY POSITIVE

Positivity is key. You are going to make mistakes. That is inevitable. What is most important is that you stay patient and positive with yourself as you go through the process of school and life itself. As difficult as it may be at times, remember our mantra of “progression, not perfection!” There is no such thing as perfection, so it makes no sense to strive for an impossible standard. Instead, remember to trust the process and to focus on improving each day!

EXCELLENCE

In the same way that Empower ME Academy coaches set high standards, we expect our student-athletes to set even higher demands and lead their school’s community members to exceed expectations. Because, after all, there is no on or off switch to being a leader. You either are a leader, or you are not.

And…. Empower ME Academy’s student-athletes are leaders.
